Because you chose a Pinto or....?

The rust looks rough. What engine is your final car going to have? Something more fun than stock I hope?

The rust was terrible. Ended up costing $3,000 just to get the rust repaired. The motor is a 2.3l out of a 1990 Mustang. I slightly modified it.

Interesting. now that it's "slightly" modified, is it fun? I haven't seen the final of your car before.

Ahhhh.

Well good luck to you. My Montego Project that I thought was back on the road ready to run with no valve cover gaskets....sprayed oil all over again from the passenger valve cover when i took it for a ride last night....back to work...

What really sucks is when I put it back together last weekend i checked for leaks, revved the motor everything went great.(I also solved a vacuum leak so it was running even better than before) So I drive it last night, not even for 10 minutes. I punched the motor hard a few times, because modded V8, came home pull it in the garage and pop the hood, aawwww shit... good thing they are re-usable rubber gaskets, I'm going to get better gasket sealer to keep them in place and I should be good. just sucks re-doing a job.

When my dad and I replaced the intake manifold gaskets on my mom's Lincoln LS, the first time the gaskets were misaligned, and then ruined. The second time it when well but the gaskets blew apart because felpro fucked up and made them out of paper and not metal. And for the third and final time we used Ford metal gaskets and it when well. But that whole ordeal sucked balls.

Oh so thats where the seats in my foxbody came from. It was white on blue too!

It's a pain. I went with the rubber ones because of the ability to take them off and put them back on. I would say most people still use paper and cardboard budget gaskets. I would always recommend cork or rubber. Didn't even know Metal was an option.

Mine are Fel-Pro as well. I'm just thankful I didn't run it any longer or I would have ran it dry.

The foxbody wasn't that far removed from the pinto platform.

Metal is what ford used from the factory on the intake for the 3.9L. I just replaced my bmw's valve cover gasket, it was surprisingly easy.

But still the worst job I've ever tackled was the brake lines for the pinto. I had to bend them all with a hand held bender, and then flair all of the ends. Never again.

Oh I know. Big ford fan here. Mine had the 2.3 pinto motor too haha. Aint nothing wrong with the pinto. Pintos are bad ass.

I did that with fuel lines on my 88 S-10 Blazer when I had it. All hand bent. More work on brake lines though...there's more of them!

Interesting about the metal though. I know the 3.9L in there was a Jaguar V8, so maybe that's why they used metal. I may just not know though, there could be metal all over the place.

my 2.3L is out of a 1990 fox, what are the odds?

Are you turboing it or just looking for a replacement motor?

Gonna throw a curve ball and recommend a duratec 2.3 almost twice the hp and almost 2/3 of the weight! I have always wanted to put on in a fox body or a pinto.

I know this is way more to consider than just getting it running again but can't help myself.

No the motor actually came form a 90 mustang. I rook all of the fuel injection stuff off, put a roller-cam and rockers out of an '80's ranger, put the shorty tube headers off of a different '80's ranger, an intake from something can't remember, a new old stock pinto Motorcraft two barrel carb (Webber bottom Holley top), a cast aluminum valve cover off a turbo coupe. And the T-5 from the mustang as well. These aren't in the car yet.

Is the lower intake 4 holes in a row or 4 holes tightly packed? The later 4 pack was better and you could lightly port it. Sounds good man. Keep it up.

D port head. I also picked up a single piece aluminum driveshaft out of a police interceptor. That's going to need to be slightly modified.

Right on. Sounds like you have done your homework. You gonna keep that two barrel or go sidedrafts?

I would love to go for the side drafts but the deuce will stay. Until I get a V8.
